Yoon Hyup's new limited edition print transforms a fleeting Parisian moment into a luminous nocturnal tableau.

Ambre Roulette depicts a scene the artist encountered while walking through the streets of Paris in the daytime. Back in his Brooklyn studio, he reimagined it through the lens of night, suffusing the scene with the atmospheric glow that defines his practice. Working with his signature medley of dots and lines, Yoon builds compositions the way a jazz musician improvises – intuitively, rhythmically, each mark a note in a larger chord. 

Each piece in this limited edition of 200 is finished with a silkscreen matte varnish seal, crafted in close collaboration with the artist and our specialist printmakers at Make-Ready.

Yoon Hyup5 collaborationsYoon Hyup translates the world around him into a medley of lines and dots. They’re painted in a variety of scenes, from raindrops on a window to entire cityscapes of New York. Working with acrylic on canvas, he creates flat orbs of colour that resemble light flares. The rhythmic quality of these marks reflects music's influence on his work. Sounds guide his compositions – he compares painting to jazz improvisation. He also uses colour to, quite literally, create harmony. Each is carefully selected to represent a different note, so that together they build a chord.
